Heading further south, I decided to spend the autumn at Sutton Bay on Lake Timiskaming. This RV park has mostly seasonal campers, many of whom have gone home for the winter, leaving a place that's very quiet and peaceful.

During my stay here, I visited Belle Valée Wools, the only complete farm-based woollen mill remaining in Eastern Canada. This area (north of New Liskeard) is mostly farm land; to the west and south of town is mostly forested. Although there are not many maple trees in the area, there was some fall colour, especially in the Matchetawan and Temagami areas. A good place for seeing autumn colours is from the top of the 30 metre Temagami Fire Tower on Caribou Mountain. Last used in the 1970's, it has now been upgraded and is open to the public. From the top, one can see over 40 km, including great views of Lake Temagami.
